webQUIK

webQUIK is a full-fledged exchange terminal operated using a web browser.

webQUIK makes it possible to execute securities deals without any special programs. At the same time, the system can be accessed from any Internet-enabled PC, i.e. from home, the office or an Internet café. webQUIK is also a convenient tool for active traders as an alternative to the QUIK client terminal on any trip.

The multiple document interface of webQUIK software has been tailor-made to fit the standard workplace of a QUIK user, with tables, charts and windows for entering orders. Information on the screen is updated with no need to reload a web page.

Differences of webQUIK from other terminals

There is no need to install the program, since the system can be used on any PC using the Version 5 or the latest version of the Microsoft Internet Explorer.

There is no need for special port settings, since the standard http/ssl connection is used for information exchange.

The program offers the interface of a full-fledged online trading platform, including optional windows settings and their free movement on the screen.

The platform saves settings made by a user for subsequent operations in the system. At the same time, settings are saved when a user gains access to the system from various PCs.

The system includes a user-customized interval for data update, making it possible to save on traffic substantially.

How webQUIK works

webQUIK is a special application based on the DHTML1 technology supported by a MS Internet Explorer 5.0 or newer browser.

Fundamentals of operation

Data transfer from the system server is performed via HTTP/SSL2 standard protocol and requires no additional adjustment of a browser or a proxy-server. The SSL digital certificate system is used to ensure confidentiality of transmitted information and prevent unauthorized access in the QUIK system. The user does not need to take any special measures to switch to SSL-connection, since the SSL client application is built into the browser. In order to verify the client's identity, it is necessary to enter registration name (login) and password. A webQUIK user can change his password independently.

The webQUIK server receives information from stock trading systems through the QUIK system server and transmits it to online users. All information is displayed in the form of tables with content similar to systems of QUIK online trading system. This ensures easy navigating when users switch from one system to another.

When new client orders are accepted, they are transmitted to the QUIK server, which verifies whether there are enough funds and client authorization to use the specified account, and then orders are sent to the stock exchange's trading system. Orders are also pre-processed (pending verification of conditions and activation) by the QUIK system server.

Interface features

WebQUIK consists of a number of windows, whose view, content and layout on the screen are determined by the user himself at his discretion. The server remembers all screen settings and restores them during the next session with webQUIK, even if a different PC is used.

Hardware requirements

The user's computer should comply with the following minimum requirements:

  • Processor Pentium III 800 or higher
  • RAM at least 256 MB
  • operating system Windows 98 or NT4/2000/XP
  • MS Internet Explorer 5.0 or newer;
  • Internet connection;

Communication channel requirements:

The following conditions should be observed for normal operation of the application:

  • HTTP/SSL data transfer protocol
  • communication channel throughput capacity of at least 9.6 Kbit/sec
  • transmission time of signal (ping) to webQUIK server no more than 1 sec.

1 Dynamic HyperText Markup Language (DHTML) is an extension of the traditional hyper text markup language (HTML), which makes it possible to create interactive HTML-format documents using various programming languages such as JavaScript, JScript and VBScript, as well as Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

2 Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a protocol that protects data transmitted between web browsers and web servers. SSL also guarantees that data received from a web site comes only from the intended site and data are not distorted during transmission. Any web site starting with https supports SSL.

Most often SSL is applied for secure data exchange between web browsers and web servers. The main purpose of the secure protocol is:

  1. To authenticate the server, providing guarantee to users that they have accessed the web site they wanted to visit.

  2. To create such a secure channel that information can be transmitted between a browser and a server in encoded format so that nobody is able to distort data in the course of transmission.
